Debbie Maken

Some of you will be aware of Debbie Maken's book: "Getting Serious About Getting Married: Rethinking the gift of singleness".
In essence, she argues that singleness is not a gift, but rather the widespread, protracted singleness we are witnessing today has come about through various cultural factors that have seeped into the church. These have led to Christian men not seeking a wife in a timely manner, and an overall lack of male leadership has enabled otherwise godly men to delay marriage in a form of extended adolescence.
As a result, many single Christian women are facing the unattractive prospect of remaining a barren spinster all their lives.
In contrast to the vast reams of literature available on this subject, Debbie Maken deftly argues that nearly all of the singleness we are witnessing is not "God's will" at all, but has come about as a result of our own sinful actions, reinforced by church leaders that are not addressing the problem.
But wait - this is actually a crucial point, because that means IT IS IN OUR POWER TO CHANGE IT!
And by the grace of God, change it we will.
