Childlessness - Not just a female curse
'..."Record this man as if childless, a man who will not prosper in his lifetime..."'
(Jeremiah 22: 30)

It has recently been decided that singleness is a "gift", therefore singles should be content, wait on the Lord and God will just land the perfect husband or wife in our laps at the right time - or not. Alternatively, like all Christian leaders and theologians prior to our generation, you could take the view that this is a load of horsefeathers... This blog is brought to you by the voice of Biblical reason, Captain Sensible, and his nutty sidekick, Frieda Fruitcake.

Why I thought being childless was like being a nerd in high school. You mean to say it's a curse.
LOL - I'll have to see if I can dig out that priceless exchange!
(And he knew it was true, because he understands Greek! ;-))
Childlessness is endemic in Britain partly because of the fact that we have the highest abortion rate in western Europe.
Yet, polls within the last 2 months show that MOST women want the law on abortion to be tightened up. Surveys show that women have been thinking this for a long time.

Women are mostly likely to have abortions in their early 20s. This is no accident. Forty years ago, when abortion was legalised, most people were married by the age fo 25. Now, most people remain unmarried at 25. Women tend to have 'social' abortions because couples aren't getting married.
It's clear to me that the church needs to be bold in promoting marriage as the only suitable context for sex, and to campaign for laws that privilege marriage and stigmatise fornication. Otherwise the age of marriage will continue to be very late, the abortion rate will continue to be very high, and a lot of people will remain unhappily single.
