Remind me again...

Captain Sensible writes: Why is it that single Christians are told to "wait on the Lord" to bring them their spouse?
(And should Christians also "wait on the Lord" to bring us our groceries, too? It sure would save a lot of time if we did...)

Well, it'd certainly save on groceries... :-)

Because most Christians don't consider marriage to be a "need" like food, shelter, employment, etc., so it's easy to hyper-spiritualize the issue and feed singles a bunch of platitudes like "wait on the Lord."

I think "wait on the Lord" has been given as an oh-so-easy response to a recognised problem that single Christian women face, and which church leaders are terrified of tackling.
One of the difficulties with it however (aside from it being unbiblical nonsense of course!) is that they couldn't pretend that this only applied to women...so they had to also tell men to "wait on the Lord", thereby actually exacerbating the original problem enormously!
Hmm, I feel a post on this coming on...
