Out With The Old Wisdom -- In With The New!

"(O)ne of my favorites is that there aren't enough good prospects for marriage where I live, so my odds aren't very good. Since when did God have to worry about odds?"
(Comment left by Christian man on A.N.Other blog, well Boundless -- again!)

Frieda Fruitcake writes: Praise the Lord for the New Wisdom that can be found in contemporary Christianity! (As opposed to the old wisdom that can be found in the Bible, and which is now hopelessly outdated!)
All of God's "fellow workers" (1 Corinthians 3:9) have been sacked and there is no longer any such thing as putting God to the test!
Rejoice single Christian women that know there are not enough single men in the church to go around!
It's just a matter of waiting on the Lord!
Shout and sing hallelujah if there are no good prospects for marriage in your church!
It's an opportunity to show how much you trust God!
Thanks be to God for the super-spiritual New Wisdom that is spreading like wildfire. (And thanks to Boundless for fanning the flames!)

I'm sure I remember Carolyn McCulley saying this very thing. If our prospects for marriage are not good, then this is a great opportunity to show our trust in God!
I also remember a comment she posted by a woman who was virtually boasting about how impossible it was for her to get married (no single men in church, living in a remote town etc.). Rather than this being a cause for concern, she was so happy because - guess what? - she was trusting in God!
Now bear in mind, even when CMcC used to post comments, they were nearly always of the "Oh thank you Carolyn for this wonderful and timely encouragement" variety!
Would anyone a generation ago have taken this attitude?
Or would they have been regarded as, er, slightly lacking in the wisdom department, maybe?

Women and men trumpeting these platitudes are usually using this rhetoric of trust/faith to disguise their fear of a real, gritty, human relationship with a member of the opposite sex. I find it difficult to believe that all of these people "gifted" with singleness are the warriors for the Kingdom that they claim to be. Fear is rooted in sin. Fear like this is everywhere (and those who aren't afraid, those who are actively enjoying sex with a boyfriend or girlfriend, are using the rhetoric of the fearful to justify their carefree ways).

I've thought of something - we can think of "wait on the Lord" in other way.

When you wait on someone, you serve them. You don't necessarily wait FOR them. What if we feel the best way to serve the Lord is through marriage? Then "waiting" on the Lord is totally different than waiting FOR the Lord.

I continue to be amazed by the manner in which Boundless does not take the time to correct evidence of false teaching, such as that quoted by Frieda in the opening post, but yet Ted Stater does find the time to add his comments on threads of much lesser importance, such as this:

"My wife and I do the automatic checking account withdrawal thing. We're supporting our church financially, but not really experiencing the weekly "put the money in the plate" feeling; we really don't have much of an emotional connection with our tithing, which leaves me wondering if we're missing out on something by not literally putting anything into the offering plate. On the other hand, we haven't missed a week since we started! :-)"

Here's the news, Ted:
No. One. Cares.
Share your thoughts like this at a dinner party. Your readers need your help. We as the Body of Christ need to address the widespread problem of singleness in the contemporary church which is causing huge amounts of hurt and pain, and actual damage to the Christian faith as a whole.
Get your priorities right! Allowing false teaching to be spread is not "a different matter", Candice Watters. It is YOUR responsibility. Do the staff at Boundless not believe they are going to have to give an account for every time they encountered evidence of wrong teaching and just walked on by...
I think some people need to re-read the parable of The Good Samaritan. Plus maybe a certain article entitled "Misguided Compassion"...
