"...the wife of your youth."

"Young Muslim adults were more likely to be married (22 per cent) than were young people from any other religious background...Christians and those with no religion were the least likely to be married – 3 per cent of 16 to 24 year olds in each group."

Captain Sensible writes: Having a "wife of your youth" (mentioned five times in the Bible, I believe) probably means you are both Muslim. You are least likely to be Christian.
So with Muslims getting married younger, and having more children, did the Archbishop of Canterbury, the head of the Church of England, receive a word of prophesy when he said that the UK’s adoption of "some aspects" of Sharia law was "unavoidable"? (More on that later when I have got my head around it!)

Interesting that Buddhists had higher rates of marriage and lower rates of common-law than Christians -- especially when you consider the distain shown to "eastern spirituality" by the Christian media.

Captain,

Your archbishop's predictions are only a short time frame away. My entire argument in Getting Serious About Getting Married is based on the creation mandate to be fruitful and multiply, and this holds true for believers and non-believers. When Christians fail to multiply, all they do is shrink Christendom and in a sense, sterilize their own dominion in this sphere.

We have evidence of this to some degree here in the U.S. When Republicans fail to reproduce and allow immigrants to illegally enter this country at an alarming rate for the last twenty years, all it takes is for one generation (twenty years) to change the voting outcome. Because of our open borders, we had 14 million democrats show up to vote compared to 8 million Republicans. Consequently, we are going to be taxed to death, regardless of whom the Republicans nominate at this point.

Britain with its negative birthrate will eventually have some form of Sharia law because the Muslims there decided to obey the creation mandate and receive the keys to exercise dominion. Of course, it won't be dominion they will be exercising, but an abuse of authority. Nonetheless, Christendom will suffer the curse of having failed to produce godly seed.

Thank you Gortexgrrl, and thank you Debbie.
Debbie, with regard to the importance of Kingdom expansion through obedience to the creation mandate, I have posted an extract from your interview with Spiraluniverse last year. It makes for very timely reading.
I am still pondering the Archbishop's comments. I think what bothers me most is the use of the word "unavoidable". It's the same defeatist attitude that lies behind pastors encouraging "contentment" with the "gift of singleness", instead of addressing the problem itself.
And the solution is really not rocket science - just obedience to the Word of God.
There are a lot of calls for the Archbishop to resign at the moment in this country. But I think the crux of the problem is at the grass roots. I would like to call for the resignation of every church leader that does not preach on the importance of obeying the creation mandate. Which pretty much means calling for the resignation of every church leader...
(We could do a lot worse than have a complete overthrow!)

Regardless of politics (I think Christians can legitimately hold differing views as to which party would best uphold a Biblical framework), I honestly fail to see how Christians can believe it's okay to ignore God's creation mandate.
We need to build Christian families, and from that secure stronghold, reach outwards to the world on our doorstep and beyond. What's so difficult to understand about that?

Hehe, I can imagine a Muslim getting a contentment lecture from his Imam :"Ahh my son, do not concern yourself with marriage and such carnality. Allah is all you need. Are you willing to lay those 70 virgins on the altar?" Last part was being sarcastic, but you get the idea......
