How do you know if you have the gift of singleness?

Captain Sensible writes: It's easy. You don't. There is no such thing in the Bible. (Barring a couple of modern paraphrases that misinterpret one or two passages.)
If you are wondering if you have the gift of singleness, please stop right now.
You don't. It is God's will that you marry.

What about 'those who make themselves a eunuch for the kingdom?' (Jesus said that somewhere)

Thank you infinitely for this post.
Any chance you could re-post it on other Christian blogs?... the Boundless blog... other blogs... anywhere you see fit? Knock the truth into people's heads, make them face it.

Celia - Yes, Matthew 19:12 says "...and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake...."
There are people that renounce marriage for the sake of the Kingdom, and we thank God for them. They undertake some aspect of Kingdom work that would be incompatible with a spouse and a family, most likely putting their lives in constant danger. This would not be conducive to marriage and children.
However, these people are rare and totally different from those that are merely "single". Most singles have not made a conscious decision to renounce marriage, and they are not undertaking some Kingdom work that would make normal family life impossible.
I recommend you read Debbie Maken's "Getting Serious About Getting Married: Rethinking the gift of singleness" for a Biblical perspective on singleness and marriage.
